Very large, 3-5″ long, ruffled and puckered bright-green leaves and has shown better than average downy mildew tolerance in our fields than other Italian cultivars. Mild basil flavor with hints of licorice. We substitute this basil for lettuce on wraps and sandwiches, especially when tomatoes are in season! Flavor similar to Genovese Pesto basil, except a sweeter flavor and with hints of licorice. We frequently substitute this basil for Genovese. Some of our favorite recipes for this basil is in pesto, the traditional Genovese sauce. CSA Shareholder Frieda Probst pesto is the BEST we’ve ever had! Blend this with Purple basil for bruchetta while tomatoes are in season for an excellent snack, or if you are like us, you serve bruchetta as a meal!
