This heirloom tomato is among a favorite of tomato aficionado and are perfectly suited for sandwiches, hamburgers, salsa and pasta. This is a type of Brandywine, with flattened and smooth fruits, except shoulder ribbing on some, and a vivid dark-pink skin with crimson flesh. They are juicy, so for sandwiches you may need to drain off a bit of juice after slicing, just so your sandwich doesn’t fall apart. GREAT FLAVOR! After a tomato sandwich, one of our favorite meals is pasta with chopped tomatoes, garlic and basil, mostly because it is quick, filling, refreshing and delicious. We don’t find ourselves making pesto for summer use, because we love this dish! We freeze our pesto for winter months. Other favorites ours, especially of we are making fresh mozzarella, is panzanella salad, salad caprese or bruschetta using bread from Annie’s Bakery. We also love using these tomatoes in salsa roja because they aren’t too juicy. We have a tendency to keep a jar of fresh picante sauce around because it is perfect tossed in scrambled eggs, salads, guacamole sauce, quesadillas, burritos, etc. Some of our favorite summer salads include; cucumber tomato, tomatoes and sweet corn, marinated tomato salad, skillet BLT Panzanella.
Sold in 1 pound bags. Included are 1 – 3 tomatoes per pound, depending on their size.
