Sorghum syrup, or sometimes called sorghum molasses, is a local sweetener made by pressing the juice from sorghum cane and boiling to a thick consistency. It has a earthy flavor and is sweet and should not to be confused with blackstrap molasses. This syrup is excellent in baked goods, such as these sorghum oatmeal cookies or these ginger snaps and as a great substitution for maple syrup. Southern Living recommends these recipes for sorghum syrup. It is a sustainable sweetener local to our region and is high in iron, calcium, potassium and anti-oxidants. Does not require refrigeration.
