Other Serving Suggestions for Chard

         

 

STEAMED CHARD VINAIGRETTE:  Steam chard leaves in a covered pot in just the water clinging to them after washing, drain thoroughly, then dress them with olive oil, salt, pepper, and lemon juice or vinegar.

 

CHARD WITH ONIONS AND BACON:  Boil the leaves and ribs separately; drain, pat dry, and chop coarsely.  Render some diced bacon or pancetta (Italian unsmoked bacon) then sauté some chopped onions and garlic in the pork fat.  Add the chopped chard and reheat.

 

CHARD RIBS WITH GARLIC AND PARMESAN:  Cut the ribs into bite-sized pieces and boil them in salted water until tender.  Drain, pat dry, and reheat in butter with a little minced garlic, salt, and pepper.  Garnish with grated Parmesan.

 

CHARD WITH WHITE BEANS OR LENTILS:  Stir chopped boiled chard into a pot of stewed white beans or lentils.
